Like the classical Pareto Principle, or 80/20 rule, only 20% of the world's population shares knowledge by using the latest social media tools.  For several reasons, the remaining 80% of the world's population does not benefit at all.

Even the current selection of online campaigns and website are questionable - they look good but are they having any impact?  Are they changing any behaviour?

eighty20.org recognizes that in a world increasingly dominated by information technology, the economically disadvantaged will be left further behind if they are not provided with access to the latest knowledge sharing tools including video, eLearning and web-based community sites.

Therefore, eighty20.org was created as a privately funded, not-for-profit organization that consults on, develops and funds online projects - both global and local - that facilitate social knowledge sharing between key actors.

By focusing on film, multimedia, and interactive projects that have a strong local impact on preventive health, social rights, eLearning, poverty reduction and capacity building, eighty20.org empowers the 80% of the global population who have limited opportunity to benefit from the Internet, its knowledge networks and online support communities.

We believe that 'new media' advocacy and awareness channels are the most important way to reduce the digital divide and create benefits well beyond the computer screen and into the local communities. Just like the corporate world, socially minded non-profits and NGOs thrive on relationships.  This means that the social media holds tremendous potential to transform your ideas into local impact - off and online.
